Two prominent SEC programs suffered disappointing defeats Saturday, yet one of them received some good news Sunday at the expense of the other.

Mere hours after Florida dropped a 38-19 home contest to South Carolina, Texas fell in similarly head-scratching fashion when it lost to Oklahoma, 27-24, in the Red River Rivalry Game.

And while the recruiting calendar has been accelerated more than ever before in recent years, there are still players opting to make decisions during the season, and a highly sought-after recruit made some headlines Sunday.

5-star wide receiver Easton Royal, as rated by 247Sports, announced his flipped commitment from Texas to Florida, with the New Orleans native choosing to suit up for Jon Sumrall‘s Gators despite the program being amidst a two-game losing streak.

As 247Sports’ Tyler Harden reported, Royal had been pledged to Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns since November of 2025, nearly a full year.

At 5-foot-11, 214 lbs., Royal is an electric athlete who also holds offers from the likes of LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Miami, Ohio State, Tennessee and Notre Dame.

Ironically enough, Texas will welcome Florida for a matchup this Saturday, which will perhaps give Royal one last chance to change his mind.
