One person was killed and eight others were wounded in a shooting just outside of Legion Field in Birmingham on Saturday after the annual Magic City Classic college football game, according to the Associated Press.
According to the AP report, police have arrested a suspect and recovered multiple firearms at the scene. The shooting occurred just before 8 p.m. local time on the 400 block of Graymont Avenue just behind the south endzone stands of the stadium and near a Dollar General store.
According to ESPN News Services, Michael Pickett, chief of the Birmingham Police Department, said most spectators and families had left the stadium property after the game, and the shooting occurred in an area where vendors were set up. All tailgating activities were suspended after the game.
Police confirmed that one person was killed in the shooting and another person was in critical condition. Others suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were considered stable. Per the AP, police did not reveal the identities of the victims or the suspect who was detained and taken in for questioning.
