Aaron Philo received an injury update on Thursday afternoon from On3 insider Pete Nakos, who reported that the Florida quarterback “is likely to be a game-time decision on Saturday at Texas.”
With the suddenly struggling Gators heading to Austin in Week 7 for a noon ET matchup on ABC, Florida might not have its starting quarterback against the 7th-ranked Longhorns as it tries to snap a 2-game losing streak that has sent it from the AP top 10 to completely out of the rankings.
According to Nakos’ report, Philo was seen throwing at practice on Thursday. The junior who took over as Florida’s starting quarterback this season “is working through a shoulder injury,” according to the On3 report.
If Philo is unable to play at Texas, “Tramell Jones will get the start,” according to Nakos.
Jones was beaten out by Philo for the starting QB position during fall camp, but Jones might be getting his big chance on the big stage in Week 7 if Philo can’t suit up because of the shoulder injury.
Philo was listed as questionable for Saturday’s game on Wednesday night’s SEC injury report, so Thursday’s On3 report of Philo being a game-time decision would seem to be on the same track.
In 6 games this season, Philo has thrown for 1,341 yards with 9 touchdown passes and 3 interceptions. Philo has also rushed for 3 touchdowns in his first season at Florida after transferring from Georgia Tech in the offseason. He spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons at Georgia Tech before heading to the SEC for the 2026 campaign.
With Philo’s status for Saturday’s game in doubt, here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about Florida’s chances to pull the road upset in Austin against what is sure to be a very angry Texas team:
