Aaron Philo’s status ‘in question’ for Week 7 matchup at Texas, per report

The Florida Gators are getting ready to make the trip out west to the Lone Star State this Saturday for a Week 7 showdown against the No. 7 Texas Longhorns in what will be a pivotal matchup for both squads.

The Horns are coming off their first loss of the 2026 campaign against the Oklahoma Sooners, while the Gators are riding a 2 game losing skid after suffering another brutal loss against the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 6.

Texas and Florida are both in desperate need of a win here, but it looks like the path to victory for the Gators might be a bit tougher after CBS Sports insider Matt Zenitz reported on Wednesday that quarterback Aaron Philo status for the game is in question.

Per Zenitz, Philo has been limited in practice all week due to an undisclosed injury, meaning that sophomore backup Tramell Jones would be forced to make the first start of his career if Philo is unable to go this Saturday.

A Georgia Tech transfer, Philo followed Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner to Gainesville last offseason and won the starting job over Jones in fall camp. He started the year off strong, but has struggled over the past couple of weeks in the Gators’ losses.

If he is unable to play against the Horns and Jones ends up having a strong performance, then it’s very likely he ends losing his starting role entirely for the rest of the season.
