One of the special games in college football won’t happen this season as originally scheduled following an announcement from the Air Force. The Falcons game with Army this week was postponed and the programs are trying to reschedule.
Air Force said the reason was because of “upward trends of COVID-19 here at the Academy.” The director of athletics said the program has paused all team activities.
Air Force and Army have played every year since 1968.
Army also had a Sept. 12 home game with BYU postponed because of COVID-19 issues with the Cougars. Multiple reports have suggested that Army would be open to scheduling a new opponent for this weekend if one comes available.
Air Force beat Navy 40-7 on Oct. 3 before opening Mountain West play Oct. 24 against San Jose State. The Falcons have dropped both of their league games.

With Army-Air Force officially canceled due to COVID issues, this will be the first time in 50 years that the two schools have not faced off against each other.
It will also be the first-ever time that the teams will not play each other since the founding of the CIC Trophy.
