AJ McCarron calls out ‘stupidity’ of Thomas Castellanos comments
Former Alabama quarterback plenty to say about recent comments from Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos.
Last month, Castellanos expressed confidence when talking to On3 about FSU’s Week 1 matchup with Alabama.
โThey donโt have Nick Saban to save them. I just donโt see them stopping me,โ Castellanos said.
While everyone from Paul Finebaum to Danny Kanell has shared their thoughts on that comment by Castellanos, McCarron added his take to pile when he appeared on The Dynasty podcast earlier this week. McCarron didn’t hold back, calling out the “stupidity” of what the new FSU quarterback had to say.
โWhere do you even start?โ McCarron said. โYouโre going to a team that was 17th out of 17 teams in the ACC. Youโre leaving a team and lost the starting job where you finished 9th in the ACC. Listen, Iโm all for confidence, but this is stupidity.โ
McCarron also brought up Bill O’Brien, a former Saban assistant at Alabama who coached Castellanos at Boston College last season before ultimately benching him.
โAsk Bill how Alabama is,โ McCarron said. โWhat type of players they have. How they play the game. And let [O’Brien] tell you, hey ‘Thomas, you might want to stay quiet on this one. Just go out and play.’ Now you just added fuel to the fire, brother.
“I promise you, I wouldnโt want to be you the first game of the year. I donโt care how well you can run. How well you can throw it. Once you stand in that pocket and get hit a couple times, that accuracy that dipped that cost you the starting job, you better find it quick this offseason and during that game because it ainโt going to be good.”
Alabama is a 12.5-point road favorite against Castellanos and the Seminoles in Week 1, per most betting apps.
Kickoff from Tallahassee is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 30.
