Alabama turned in yet another clutch performance on Saturday night in a victory over South Carolina, as the Crimson Tide overcame a late 8-point deficit to sneak out with the 29-22 victory to move to 7-1.
There were a lot of heroes in Week 9 for the Crimson Tide, with 8 of them standing out because of their performances in both the game as well as helping prepare the team for the week.
Tight end Josh Cuevas was named the Offensive Skill Player of the Week after he had three catches for 16 yards and a score in the game. Offensive lineman Wilkin Formby helped the offensive line deal with a very talented Gamecocks defensive line to allow Ty Simpson to throw for 253 yards and two touchdowns.
Punter Blake Doud made a huge impact in the game, as he averaged 55.7 yards on his five punts, with three of them being inside the 20-yard line.
On defense, defensive back DaShawn Johnes was named the Defensive Skill Player of the Week, after he had three tackles while also taking back an interception 18 yards for a touchdown. Tim Keenan manned the middle of the defense for the Crimson Tide, and was named Defensive Power Player of the Week with four tackles.
One thing the Crimson Tide do is give recognition to scout players who help the team prepare throughout the week. This week’s guys are running back Jesse Washington III, linebacker Lane Whisenhunt and defensive back Conner Warhurst.
