Alabama announces Players of the Week from win over Tennessee
Alabama turned in yet another clutch performance on Saturday night in a victory over Tennessee, the 4th ranked SEC win for the Crimson Tide in the past 4 weeks.
There were a lot of heroes in Week 8 for the Crimson Tide, but 8 of them stood out in the 37-20 victory that lifted Alabama to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 in the SEC. Those 8 were named Alabama’s Players of the Week for the huge rivalry win, and the parade of players was led by wide receiver Germie Bernard, who had 5 catches for 60 yards but also was huge in the running game for the Tide, finishing with 4 carries for 49 yards.
Kadyn Proctor helped lead the way for all those yards by Bernard, and the star offensive tackle was also recognized as a Player of the Week. Fellow offensive lineman Mal Waldrep Jr. was recognized for his efforts as well on the scout team, and the Players of the Week list also included another wide receiver in Lotzeir Brooks, who had 3 catches for 39 yards.
The Players of the Week on the offensive side of the ball were terrific for Alabama, but the star of stars for the Crimson Tide on Saturday night was cornerback Zabien Brown, whose 99-yard pick-6 at the end of the first half totally changed the game and gave Bama some breathing room that it used for the rest of the night.
Linebacker Yhonzae Pierre was recognized as a Player of the Week after recording 3 sacks, 3 tackles-for-loss and 6 total tackles, 5 of them solo. Senior linebacker JD Baird was named a Player of the Week for his work on the defensive scout team.
Finally, junior defensive back Walter Sansing III was recognized for his work as a special teams scout.
