Alabama football landed a 3-star running back out of South Carolina on Monday, beating offers from programs such as Florida State, Ohio State, Stanford and Louisville, to name a few.
The prospect in question in Tai Phillips, who plays for Irmo high school out of Columbia, South Carolina. Phillips stands at 5-foot-11, 195 pounds and brings some speed to the Alabama backfield. As a junior, Phillips played in North Carolina and totaled 7.9 yads per carry with 919 total yards and 12 touchdowns across 7 games.
Phillips is the 9th prospect added to Alabama’s 2027 cycle and the 2nd running back, joining 3-star back Nigel Newkirk from Gainesville, Georgia. Interestingly, Phillips is the first South Carolina-based prospect of the cycle for Kalen DeBoer and Co.
Despite holding a commitment from the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2027 class, Alabama’s cycle is a little behind the rest of the SEC as it currently stands, ranking No. 49 according to 247Sorts’ latest rankings.
According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Phillips is considered to be the No. 856 overall prospect in the country, as well as the No. 64 running back and No. 17 player out of the Palmetto State.
