With the player movement period of the offseason largely concluded, programs across the country are looking to finalize their coaching staffs over the coming weeks.

That’s certainly the case in Tuscaloosa, as Kalen DeBoer & Co. are set to fill their void at tight ends coach.

Per reports from CBSSpotrs’ Matt Zenitz, the Alabama Crimson Tide are close to finishing up a deal that will bring Louisville offensive line coach Richard Owens over to work as the program’s tight ends coach.

A former NFL tight end, Owens began coaching as a graduate assistant at Arkansas in 2010, and he went on to work at UAB, South Alabama and Georgia Southern before landing back at his alma mater in 2023.

Owens coached the offensive line at Louisville during this recent stint, although he also held the tight ends coach role at the school in 2018.

A standout tight end for the Cardinals, Owens tallied 371 yards and 8 touchdowns from 2000-2003. He then spent 3 years with the Minnesota Vikings and 1 with the St. Louis Rams, tallying 141 receiving yards and a touchdown over that span.

With Josh Cuevas having graduated, Alabama will be looking for a new leader to step up in its tight end room next season.
