Alabama gets good news on injured 5-star freshman Jireh Edwards

The Alabama Crimson Tide is getting ready to embark on what could be a pivotal Year 3 under head coach Kalen DeBoer, and the Tide will need all hands on deck to get back to the College Football Playoff for a second consecutive season.
Five-star true freshman defensive back Jireh Edwards figured to be well involved in Alabama’s defense after turning heads in spring and fall camp, but a recent arm injury appeared to throw those plans into jeopardy.
Fortunately for DeBoer and the Crimson Tide defense, though, CBS Sports insider Matt Zenitz reported Tuesday that Tuscaloosa is optimistic Edwards can return early in the season despite needing surgery on his injured arm.

Edwards was the second-ranked safety in the 2026 recruiting cycle and one of several 5-star recruits that the Crimson Tide signed in their loaded recruiting class.
The Baltimore native chose Alabama over several other SEC programs, including Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas, and Florida, and has been on campus in Tuscaloosa since January after enrolling early.
Monday’s injury scare initially cast doubt on the talented freshman’s chances of early playing time, but this latest update appears to have put those fears to rest.
