Alabama is 5-1 after a 20-17 loss to Georgia at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday.

The Bulldogs, by virtue of their win, moved to No. 1 in the AP Top 25, the first time they’ve been there since 2024. The Crimson Tide, who came into Week 6 at No. 6, stayed put despite their defeat.

As AL.com Mike Rodak notes, the Tide didn’t suffer a drop in the standings after a loss for the first time in 36 years. To be fair, Georgia was ranked No. 2, so any drop was going to be minimal. As it turns out, there was none at all to speak of.

Losing to the Bulldogs doesn’t mean panic time for the Tide. They’re still on track to make a College Football Playoff appearance if they’re able to take care of business the rest of the way. They’re also still in the hunt for an SEC Championship Game appearance. Thanks to a win earlier in the season over Kentucky, they have a tiebreaker over the Wildcats despite a 3-1 mark in conference play.

Alabama‘s next game is against Tennessee in the latest edition of the Third Saturday in October. The Crimson Tide will be looking for their first win at Neyland Stadium since 2020.
