Alabama moves ahead of Notre Dame in CFP rankings: Fans, media react
Alabama has a huge task ahead of it on Saturday afternoon, facing Georgia in the SEC title game with just about everything on the line.
But on Tuesday night, the Crimson Tide got a big victory when the latest College Football Playoff rankings were released. Alabama was placed at No. 9 in those hugely important updated rankings, switching spots with Notre Dame, which took Alabama’s old spot at No. 10.
So, the blue blood programs switched places in the rankings, with Bama moving up 1 spot and Notre Dame moving down 1 spot, which is a big indicator of what could potentially happen on Selection Sunday when the final rankings and Playoff bracket are revealed.
Alabama finished its regular season at 10-2 after a close victory at SEC rival Auburn on Saturday night. A few hours later, Notre Dame blew out Stanford to also finish its regular season at 10-2. The difference this weekend is that Alabama still has a game to play in Atlanta, while idle Notre Dame sits and watches. Bama can lock up a Playoff spot with a win over Georgia, which would earn the Tide an automatic bid, or theoretically it could fall out of a College Football Playoff spot if it loses to the Bulldogs and suffers a 3rd defeat.
Tuesday night’s development with Bama and Notre Dame produced the expected big reaction on social media.
