Alabama quarterback Dylan Lonergan is set to join a long list of players entering the transfer portal, with Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports /247 Sports reporting the news on Wednesday afternoon.
With Jalen Milroe likely out of the fold sooner rather than later for the 2025 NFL Draft, the Crimson Tide could be looking for his replacement this offseason. And regardless of what actually happens with that situation, it is clear that Lonergan feels there are better and perhaps more promising opportunities for him elsewhere.
The news comes right after Alabama was left on the outside looking in for the College Football Playoff, set to be played in the 12-team format for the first time in history.
Lonergan could provide a boost for a team with a need at the position and could have a lot of untapped potential as he was a Class of 2023 top-160 overall recruit. According to the 247Sports Composite, the Snellville, Georgia native who played out his pre-college career at Brookwood High School was a 4-star prospect who was the No. 13 overall prospect in the state of Georgia, the No. 13 overall quarterback in his class and the 159th ranked player in the nation for the same cycle.
It will be interesting to see both where he lands next and what the future holds for Alabama in the transfer portal moving forward through the offseason.
