Alabama RB to be evaluated after suffering injury during scrimmage, per Kalen DeBoer

The Alabama running back room is taking a bit of a beating.
Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer gave an update for a pair of Alabama running backs following Thursday’s fall camp practice. According to DeBoer, sophomore running back AK Dear suffered an injury during the first scrimmage of fall camp and will be evaluated. According to DeBoer, Dear scored a touchdown during this scrimmage.
“It was unfortunate because he was having a real nice scrimmage there with the touches he got,” DeBoer said, via Bama247 writer Mike Rodak.
On a more positive note, DeBoer told reporters Thursday that freshman running back EJ Crowell was held out of Thursday’s scrimmage but is not expected to miss Alabama’s Week 1 matchup against East Carolina. “He’ll be out for a few practices here, but won’t miss any games,” DeBoer concluded.
Crowell is Alabama’s 5-star running back that is expected to play a big role in Year 1 alongside Daniel Hill and Dear, though now we’re awaiting to hear the latest on Dear as he enters Year 2 in the program. Dear totaled 19 carries for 140 yards and 3 touchdowns last season at 7.4 yards per carry.
Hill is Alabama’s leading returning rusher. He totaled 284 rushing yards in 2025 with 6 touchdowns and should get the primary load of carries for the Crimson Tide this season as Alabama looks to fix a broken run game.
