Alabama releases statement ahead of weather-threatened Week 6 game vs. Georgia

Alabama’s Week 6 game on Saturday against Georgia could face the threat of a Category 1 or 2 hurricane, depending on the track of a tropical system forming in the Gulf Coast.
While there are no guarantees that Tropical Depression Nine, which would be called Isaias if it reaches hurricane force, will pass over or near Bryant-Denny Stadium, the game could be moved if forecasts continue to trend in that direction.
For now, “there are no plans to alter the contest,” Alabama‘s athletic department said in a social media statement on Tuesday night.
“We will continue to observe conditions throughout the week and remain in communication with the Southeastern Conference office, as needed,” the statement read. “Fans are encouraged to rely on official Alabama athletics and SEC channels for the latest information regarding Saturday’s game.”
If — and that’s a big if — current forecasts hold, Isaias would make landfall around Friday night as a Category 2 and push its way inland through the early morning hours into Saturday afternoon and evening. That may put Saturday’s game at risk.
That said, it’s a very fluid situation. Isaias could end up not having much of an effect at all, if any. We’ll find out more as the week progresses and as forecasts are updated.
