In the aftermath of the incident regarding an Alabama fan who shoved Georgia starting linebacker Raylen Wilson, the university has now released a statement. The 6-foot-1 Wilson led Georgia with 9 tackles in the 20-17 victory vs. host Alabama.
Following the game, a fan got in the senior’s face and pushed him.
“Alabama has identified and taken appropriate action against the individual involved in videos circulating on social media following Saturday nightโs football game. We take matters of this nature seriously and will not tolerate this behavior,” The statement said.
In the heat of the moment, Wilson initially thought it was a Georgia fan. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart shared his thoughts on the matter after the game.
โYou want people to make good decisions and do things the right way, and Raylen certainly did there,โ Smart said. โThereโs so much that goes into that. He thought it was a Georgia fan and probably helped him react the way he did initially. Itโs disappointing behavior by any fan, and certainly nothing we condone, and Iโm sure Alabama doesnโt condone it either.โ
Wilson has amassed 19 solo tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles this season for the Bulldogs. No. 1 Georgia hosts Auburn on Oct. 17 (3:30 p.m./ESPN).
