Alabama appears set to receive some more good news on Wednesday. After learning that Deontae Lawson will be returning to Tuscaloosa, it appears that another defender will do the same.

Per Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Tim Smith is leaning towards returning to the Crimson Tide for the 2024 season. The lineman has started for the Tide for the last 2 seasons.

Smith saw time in all 14 games for the Tide in 2023, and started in 9. Smith collected 31 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. Smith was expected to garner serious NFL interest, but will instead opt to use his COVID-19 waiver for a 5th season.

The Lawson and Smith news will be welcomed in Tuscaloosa after several players have either entered the transfer portal or declared for the draft. Fellow defensive linemen Isaiah Hastings, Anquin Barnes, and Monkell Goodwine have all entered the portal thus far. Star edge rusher Dallas Turner also made it known that he would waste no time declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.
