Alabama strength coach Dave Ballou is extremely impressed with the work the Crimson Tide is putting in during the offseason.
Alabama is coming off a 9-4 campaign last season during Kalen DeBoer’s first year at the helm. Ballou raved at media day about the physical feats by some of Alabama’s phenomenal athletes.
For example, Ballou revealed that 4 offensive lineman are benching 500+ pounds. Astoundingly, Kadyn Proctor and Jaeden Roberts each squatted over 900 pounds, with Proctor nearly at the 1,000-pound mark. Additionally, Ballou told reporters that wide receiver Rico Scott was clocked at 23.4 miles per hour on multiple occasions.
Ballou has been with the Crimson Tide staff since March 2020, so his words definitely carry weight. There’s still 25 days until the season begins but these are encouraging signs that Alabama could be headed for a special season in the SEC.
Alabama is ranked No. 8 in the coaches preseason poll ahead of its season-opening matchup at Florida State on Aug. 30 (3:30 p.m. ET/ABC).
Alabama leads the all-time series 3-1-1 vs. Florida State. Alabama defeated Florida State 24-7 in the last matchup to kickoff the 2017 season at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Crimson Tide and Seminoles in Tallahassee.
