Ty Simpson didn’t earn the Alabama starting quarterback job overnight. It took incredible dedication. Tight end Josh Cuevas can vouch for him.

Following Tuesday’s practice, Cuevas spoke with reporters about Simpson. He recalled an incident that had happened just hours earlier, noting the intense attention to detail Simpson brings to the field each day.

“One of the linemen jumped offsides. False started,” Cuevas said. “Out of the corner of my ear, I just hear him screaming. And I’m like, ‘that’s my quarterback. That’s my quarterback.'”

Cuevas continued singing Simpson’s praises moments later.

“[He’s] wanting us to be great and wanting us to get every little detail exactly correct… making this offense perfect so we can operate at an efficient level is his main goal,” Cuevas said. “You can really tell, when he’s putting in the work, being very intentional with his throws… he’s being very intentional with his work, just trying to communicate and get everything down. When I talk about passion, it’s kind of every aspect for Ty.”

If Cuevas’ feelings indicate those of the entire Crimson Tide offense, Alabama is ready to storm back into the College Football Playoff after just missing out on the event last season. Their quest begins with a Week 1 matchup against Florida State at 3:30 p.m. ET.
