In case you needed more proof of Alabama TE Josh Ford’s toughness, Pete Thamel reported Saturday morning that the Oklahoma State transfer is set to suit up against Georgia despite dealing with a broken arm. Ford suffered his injury last week during Alabama’s win over Mississippi State.
Thamel’s report on Ford is the first segment of the video below.
Don’t let his stats fool you — Ford has been integral to Alabama’s offensive dominance to start the season. The junior tight end is an enforcer, using his 6-foot-6, 260-pound frame to set up run lanes and work as an extra blocker for QB Keelon Russell. Top to bottom, Ford is one of the best blocking tight ends in the country.
Ford’s lone reception this season was caught for a touchdown against South Carolina, which means opposing defenses still have to respect him as a redzone target or short-yardage safety blanket. However, considering he’s still dealing with a broken arm, don’t expect to see Ford utilized much more outside of his usual assignments.
Alabama is looking to exact some revenge on the Bulldogs after Kirby Smart‘s squad beat the Crimson Tide for last season’s SEC title in Atlanta. Georgia and Alabama have both looked excellent to start the season, but this is by far the toughest test either have had to face yet.
Tonight’s matchup is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC from Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
