For some of us, it’s a lucky pair of socks, or maybe a lucky pair of underwear. For Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, it’s a lucky black hoodie.
When DeBoer took over the Alabama job last year, he was blasted by some fans for not wearing a collared shirt during games. Fans are now fixated on a new piece of clothing for DeBoer, the black hoodie. The Tuscaloosa News tracked DeBoer’s record when wearing the black hoodie, and he is 10-2. This stat became viral when DeBoer wore a polo shirt for Alabama’s season opener against Florida State. DeBoer switched back to the hoodie after this game, and Alabama won their next game 73-0 over ULM.
Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard saw one of these posts about DeBoer’s record with the hoodie and shared it with his coach.
It was after the ULM game, I seen an Instagram post, when Kalen DeBoer wear his black hoodie we win, or whatever,” Bernard said to The Next Round. “I screenshotted it and texted it to him and was like, ‘Coach, looks like you got to wear the hoodie from now on every game.
It seems DeBoer will wear the hoodie if it’s what it takes for Alabama to win. Even though conditions weren’t ideal, DeBoer didn’t want to mess with luck.
He was like, man, ‘it’s gonna be 90 degrees on Saturday. It’s gonna be hot,'” Bernard recalled. “He was like, ‘But whatever it takes I got to do it.’ He’s been wearing it. I don’t expect him to switch it up.
Alabama’s next game is against Georgia in what is rumored to be a blackout game for Georgia fans. Will DeBoer wear the black hoodie in a blackout game on the road? It’s a power move if you ask me. We’ll find out on Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
