Alex Golesh evaluates offensive line, says he was ‘disappointed’ with interior unit

The Auburn Tigers secured the first win of the Alex Golesh era in dramatic fashion this past Saturday, knocking off the Baylor Bears in Atlanta by stopping a 2-point conversion attempt by the Bears in the waning seconds of regulation.
In a low-scoring back-and-forth affair, Auburn managed to squeak out the 17-16 win despite lackluster production and several key mistakes on the offensive side of the ball.
One major recurring theme for the Tigers on offense was the pressure they consistently gave up against a revamped Baylor front 7. Per Auburn beat writer Justin Hokanson, Golesh said that his tackles “played well” against Baylor and that he liked the effort he saw from his center and guards, but he was “disappointed” in the interior OL’s overall performance.
The Tigers are breaking in 3 transfers at center and guard, and none have prior experience at the Power 4 level. As such, it makes sense that they struggled early against a deep, experienced Baylor front that is particularly strong at tackle.
Golesh and his staff will have to find a way to remedy these concerns before Auburn reaches SEC play, as the Tigers’ in-conference slate features several of the best defensive lines in the entire country.
