Alex Golesh and Byrum Brown ran roughshod over the American Athletic Conference in 2025. The head coach-quarterback combo averaged 40.5 points per game with the South Florida Bulls, fifth-most in the country.

Golesh and Brown knew their point totals were likely to dip following a transition to SEC play. While that wasn’t unexpected, their road victory over then-No. 1 Georgia — as 19.5-point underdogs — was exactly that. To Golesh, the win was evidence that his signal-caller has grown accustomed to the conference’s increased competition.

“We’ve always known who he is… I think he’s gotten used to the speed,” Golesh told SEC Nation’s Marty Smith on Saturday morning. “The windows close faster. Guys are running faster. The holes close quicker. For him, as he’s gotten used to the speed of it all, I’ve been really proud of his confidence as it [has] come.”

Golesh, ahead of a matchup with LSU, declared the opposing Tigers’ speed on both sides of the ball to be the “biggest challenge” for his team. Lane Kiffin’s crew is 5-2 (2-2 SEC) and faces three ranked opponents after its trip to Jordan-Hare. A win this weekend is necessary for Kiffin and Co. to remain in the College Football Playoff hunt.

LSU and Auburn kick off at noon ET (ABC).
