Alex Golesh was very disappointed in his team last week, as Auburn lost its SEC opener against Florida, 44-39. After the game, Golesh delivered a passionate speech where he told fans that things were going to get fixed.
The Tigers took a step in the right direction on Saturday, as they beat Vanderbilt 21-15 for Golesh’s first conference win as the coach at Auburn.
“I’m beyond grateful for the Auburn family and our students,” Alex Golesh told reporters after the game. “I promise you, as we built this thing, man, they are going to have a lot to cheer about as we go. Super grateful to everybody who came in, and people continue to show up, and our players are beyond grateful.”
It wasn’t the most dominant performance, but any win in the SEC is a step in the right direction.
Now that he has his first SEC win of his career at Auburn, the next step will be to get his first road SEC victory. He gets that opportunity in Week 5 when the Tigers travel to Knoxville to take on a Tennessee team that is coming off a tough 20-17 loss to No. 1 Texas on Saturday.
