Anonymous SEC coach claims Lane Kiffin gets ‘too much credit’ for Trinidad Chambliss

Trinidad Chambliss burst onto the scene at Ole Miss in 2025 after Austin Simmons suffered an ankle injury in the Rebels’ second game of the season. All the former D-II national champion did was lead his team to a program-record 13 wins and one victory shy of a College Football Playoff National Championship Game appearance.
While many point to Lane Kiffin in helping him become one of the country’s top quarterbacks, one SEC coach thinks that much of Chambliss’s success came in spite of Kiffin’s work, not because of it.
“He’s a dude. Lane probably gets too much credit for Trinidad,” the unnamed coach told ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
Kiffin, of course, is now at LSU, where Sam Leavitt will be the presumptive QB1. As for Ole Miss, all eyes are on Chambliss, who won a court battle to return to Oxford for one final season under Pete Golding. While he’ll be one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy, he’ll also look to bring the Rebels their first national championship in program history.
That starts on Sept. 6, as the Rebels face Louisville in Nashville for the Music City Kickoff. Ole Miss then opens its home schedule against Charlotte on Sept. 12 before the big one, a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff against Kiffin and LSU on Sept. 19.
In 2025, Chambliss threw for 3,937 yards, the third-highest total in FBS. He totaled 22 touchdowns versus just three interceptions while adding 527 yards and eight scores on the ground.
