Anonymous SEC coach says Alabama isn’t ‘losing much at QB’ going from Mac Jones to Bryce Young

The Alabama Crimson Tide are undergoing a major transition on offense heading into the 2021 season.

OC Steve Sarkisian, QB Mac Jones, Heisman-winning WR DeVonta Smith, WR Jaylen Waddle, RB Najee Harris and a couple of key linemen are all gone.

But, at least when it comes to the quarterback position, one anonymous SEC coach told Athlon Sports that he doesn’t think it’s much of a downgrade to go from Jones to Bryce Young:

“I don’t think they’re losing much at QB, swapping Mac [Jones] for Bryce Young is a one-to-one.”

However, another anonymous coach does think replacing Smith is going to be a problem, even for a team as deep and as talented as the Tide:

“They’re loaded everywhere, so the open positions at running back and on the line aren’t concerning, but replacing [DeVonta] Smith is a real thing. He was a generational talent at any other program, but even here they’re going to feel that absence, especially with a new QB.”

Will the Tide see a dropoff offensively this fall? We’ll see how new OC Bill O’Brien manages the talent he has to work with starting Sept. 4 against Miami.
