Arch Manning is primed and ready, at long last, to become the ultimate quarterback in college football in 2025. But what about the ultimate villain?

The latest Manning to come along and grace a college football field will create hype at Texas that’s at a whole different level. That hype is already building in the heart of spring practice, and it will continue to build as summer comes and preseason camp approaches.

And just like, say, Tim Tebow, who had millions of fans and seemingly a million haters during his tour de force at Florida from 2006-09, the Manning hype train is sure to push a lot of fans’ buttons, good and bad. On that very subject, Rece Davis, who hosts ESPN’s College GameDay during the season, said on Friday during the College GameDay Podcast that the whole Manning phenomenon in 2025 could just make Manning college football’s bad guy.

“It’s unfortunate. Because of the attention he’s going to get, he’s going to become a fan favorite by those outside of Texas and others outside of Texas he’s going to become the ultimate villain, and I don’t just mean Oklahoma people,” explained Davis.

Davis made the comparison of when people hype up a restaurant, a movie or a TV show, and those people keep saying how great it is and how you must not miss it, well, some people are inclined to start rooting against it.

“That’s what’s going to happen with Arch,” said Davis.

Of course, time will tell if Davis is on the money, but that Manning hype train is no doubt going to continue to build with each day, week and month as we get closer to kickoff this fall. It also helps (or hurts) Manning that his taking over for a team expected to compete for a title.

According to bet365, the Longhorns have the 2nd-best national title odds in the entire country at +550. Ohio State (+500) leads the way with Georgia not far behind, and be sure to use the bet365 promo code for the top offers available.

After back-to-back trips to the Playoff, can the combination of Steve Sarkisian and Manning get Texas back to the CFP yet again?
