Arch Manning shares thoughts on being preseason favorite to win Heisman Trophy
Arch Manning might do great things this fall in his much-hyped first season as the starting quarterback at Texas.
He might win a whole lot of games, starting with a monumental one when the Longhorns visit defending national champion Ohio State in the season opener on Aug. 30.
Manning might throw for a whole lot of yards and throw a whole lot of touchdown passes, too, in helping Texas return to the College Football Playoff, where the Longhorns fell to Ohio State in the semifinals last season.
There could be a whole lot of glory and a whole lot of awards waiting for the newest Manning to arrive on the football scene. And college football’s most prestigious award might be waiting for Manning in December when the regular season ends and the numbers are totaled up. If he stays healthy, Manning could have a lot of gaudy numbers, and those numbers, together with enough wins, could put Manning in line to capture the Heisman Trophy.
Right now, Manning has the best Heisman Trophy odds, even though he’s going into his first season as the starting quarterback.
Manning is well aware of that fact, too, and he stayed humble and measured when asked about the Heisman hype during SEC Media Days on Tuesday in Atlanta.
“I’m not really in the business of — this is gonna sound mean — caring what other people think. I’m grateful you think that (I’m the favorite). But I’ve only played 2 games. I have a lot to prove,” said Manning.
Manning might just win that Heisman in December. But in mid-July, long before the games have even started, Manning was keeping it real about himself and that Heisman.
