Auburn will be trying to make strides this fall during Alex Golesh‘s first season as head coach on the Plains. But while it focuses on the 2026 season, Golesh and Auburn have an eye on the 2027 season as well, and on Monday night the Tigers took another solid step toward that end.
Nasir Banks, a 3-star player who’s designated as an athlete, took to his social media to announce that he has committed to playing at Auburn for the 2027 season. Auburn’s latest commitment isn’t just a victory because of Banks’ talent, it’s also a big win for Golesh because Banks comes from a rival SEC state.
The 6-foot, 180-pounder currently stars at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., so Auburn was able to lure Banks out of the state of Georgia and into Alabama, where he will start his career at Auburn next fall. Banks’ official visit to the Plains this past weekend sealed the deal in him deciding to head to Auburn.
Banks is rated as a safety by the 247Sports Composite rankings, but he was recruited by Auburn as an athlete. According to those 247Sports Composite rankings, Banks is the 1,075th-ranked player in the Class of 2027. He’s also the 108th-ranked safety in the country and the 126th-ranked player from the state of Georgia.
Auburn struck again in getting a player from McEachern for the 2027 season, with Banks joining current high school teammate Nash Johnson III, a 3-star cornerback. Banks and Johnson are set to continue playing together at Auburn in 2027, and the Tigers’ 2027 recruiting class now features 22 commits.
That Auburn 2027 recruiting class is making headlines so far, with the 247Sports Composite rankings currently placing the class at No. 9 in the country.
While Auburn continues to build its roster for the 2027 season, the Tigers will be trying to become relevant in the SEC and in the College Football Playoff picture this fall. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the odds for the top teams in the mix to be playing for a national title come December:
