Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has enjoyed quite the weekend. On Saturday, he earned a signature win over No. 2 Alabama on the road. On Sunday, he added a junior college recruit to his recruiting class who could come in and provide an immediate impact at Auburn next season.

Abdul Bashir, a 6-foot-7 combo guard from Casper College in Wyoming, announced his commitment to the Tigers on Sunday. He also drew interest from Texas A&M, Nebraska, Kansas State, and Seton Hall, among others.

Bashir has been a prolific scorer across his 2 seasons with Casper College. He started 32 times as a freshman last season and scored 19.4 points per game while shooting 46.3% from the field, 45.3% from 3, and 78.5% from the foul line.

In 24 starts this season, Bashir is averaging 25.3 points per game while shooting 42.1% from the field, 37.3% from 3, and 88.4% from the foul line. His minutes are up and his usage rate is up. Bashir is taking 5 more shots per game on average, including more than 10 triples per game.

Bashir opened his sophomore season with 6 straight games of at least 24 points, including 4 straight with more than 30. He poured in 45 points in a win on Nov. 8 while drilling 6 of his 12 triples and all 9 of his free throw attempts. He has scored at least 30 points 9 times this season, including a season-high 47 points on Dec. 6.

Over his 2 seasons with Casper College, Bashir has also averaged 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

He’ll have 2 or more seasons of eligibility remaining with Auburn, depending on what happens with JUCO eligibility in the aftermath of the suit brought by Vanderbilt football’s Diego Pavia.
