The No. 5 offensive tackle in the Class of 2027 made his commitment to Auburn on Monday morning, giving head coach Alex Golesh an upset win over Notre Dame on the recruiting trail.

Layton von Brandt, a 6-foot-6, 290-pound OT out of Appoquinimink high school in Middletown, Delaware, is the prospect in question. In addition to beating out Notre Dame, von Brandt also chose Auburn over offers from programs such as Florida, Penn State, Georgia, Florida State and Indiana, to name a few.

This is a massive win for the Tigers, both figuratively and literally. Von Brandt is an imposing figure and was considered a pretty favorable Notre Dame lean, holding a crystal ball from Notre Dame insider Eric Thomas.

He’s also very highly rated. According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, von Brandt is considered the No. 64 overall prospect in the Class of 2027, as well as the No. offensive tackle and No. 1 player out of Delaware.

Von Brandt is the 2nd highest-rated commit for Auburn thus far in the 2027 cycle, behind only 4-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook. He’s also the 2nd commitment along the offensive line, joining 3-star interior OL Jaylon Moore out of Georgia.
