Auburn fans haven’t had a lot to cheer about this season, and that’s probably an understatement.

The Tigers limped into Saturday’s Week 13 nonconference game against Mercer with just a 4-6 record, and a game against an unknown opponent probably wasn’t going to move the needle much at Jordan-Hare Stadium, right?

Wrong. So very wrong.

That’s because Deuce Knight took his first career start as Auburn quarterback and ran with it. He literally ran with it, starting on the very first play of the game, when he sliced through the Mercer defense for a 75-yard touchdown run that got fans very interested and sent social media into a frenzy.

But Knight was just getting started.

Two possessions later, Knight added a similarly electrifying 51-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 14-14 late in the first quarter.

It was time for the hat trick in the 2nd quarter, as Knight did it yet again, this time scoring on a 9-yard run to put the Tigers ahead, 21-14. The TD finished off a 10-play, 80-yard drive and gave Knight his 3rd touchdown run of the game on his 3rd carry of the game.

Just to review, Knight had 3 carries for 135 yards and 3 touchdowns in his first career start at quarterback, and naturally there was plenty of reaction to go around for such a scintillating debut.

Here is just a sampling of the fan reaction to Knight’s opening act:
