Auburn has made a significant hire for its front office ahead of the 2025 college football season.

That’s according to a report from Jay G. Tate of On3, who says the Tigers have hired former New York Jets assistant GM Rex Hogan. He joins Auburn as the program’s new director of college scouting, per the report.

Hogan joins Auburn during an interesting time on the Plains. The heat for head coach Hugh Freeze has been turned up significantly this offseason, with fans even complaining about his golf game. The Tigers are well below .500 in SEC play during Freeze’s first 2 seasons at the helm.

Auburn has also been struggling on the recruiting trail in the class of 2026 — something that hasn’t happened yet during the Freeze era to this point. Auburn has turned in back-to-back top-10 high school recruiting classes, but the Tigers currently have one of the worst-ranked classes in the SEC for this cycle.

Hogan will presumably be in place to assist with filling the gaps in the transfer portal this offseason — regardless of whether or not Freeze is retained for 2026.

While Hogan most recently worked for the Jets, he does have collegiate experience at programs like Utah and Notre Dame.
