Auburn just picked up a big-time pass rusher in the class of 2027.
The Tigers have earned a commitment from 4-star edge Rion Jackson. He made that announcement during a ceremony on Wednesday, picking Auburn over Virginia Tech.
Jackson’s announcement included an elaborate fake-out โ he initially picked up the Virginia Tech hat and had family members reveal Hokies merchandise before confirming Auburn as his choice.
Here’s video from the scene:
Jackson is a significant pickup for Auburn in the class of 2027. He’s currently the No. 371 overall player and the No. 33 edge for this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Jackson is a Maryland native, so Virginia Tech had a significant proximity advantage over Auburn in his recruitment. However, Alex Golesh and his staff were able to overcome that challenge to earn his commitment. Jackson is also regarded as the No. 7 player from the state of Maryland for this cycle.
Auburn initially offered Jackson a scholarship back in April of 2025 and continued to recruit him as the Tigers transitioned to Golesh’s coaching staff.
Auburn now has 17 commits in the class of 2027. The group ranks No. 12 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
