The Auburn Tigers battled the Arkansas Razorbacks without linebacker Bryce Deas on Saturday. Head coach Alex Golesh‘s team prevailed 26-23 on Alex McPherson’s game-winning 43-yard field goal despite his absence. Unfortunately, the scenario is one the Tigers will have to replicate moving forward.

Following Auburn’s win, Golesh revealed Deas — who suffered a wrist/hand injury during practice this week — will miss the rest of the year with his ailment.

Deas, a sophomore from Baltimore, ends his season with 39 tackles and two pass defenses. Freshman linebacker Shadarius Toodle, a Mobile, AL native, saw his first action of the season in Deas’ place and utterly dominated against the Razorbacks, posting 11 tackles, three sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss and two pass defenses.

The Tigers’ win moves them one victory away from bowl eligibility. They should earn that distinction when they battle Samford on Nov. 21. Any other triumph this season will push Auburn to seven wins for the first time since 2019, when they went 9-4 under Gus Malzahn.

Before the matchup with Samford, the Tigers will take on a different set of Bulldogs in Mississippi State. Auburn’s trip to Starkville next weekend comes with an afternoon kickoff, but the exact start time has not yet been determined.
