It looks like Auburn could be without starting kicker Alex McPherson for the season-opening game at Baylor because of health issues.

During his Monday press conference, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze disclosed the latest on McPherson, who is listed as 1 of 3 starters at kicker, including Towns McGough and Connor Gibbs.

“Alex McPherson is still going through some testing and we’ll see kind of where he’s at at the end of the week,” Freeze said.

Freeze then elaborated further on McPherson’s condition during his radio show Tiger Talk.

“His weight is down. His strength is down,” Freeze said, via 247 Sports. “He’s having trouble keeping food down.”

McPherson attempted just a pair of kicks last season, going 1-for-2. Overall, he’s 20-for-22 in his three seasons at Auburn.

McGough struggled last season a freshman, making 5 of his 12 kicks after replacing McPherson but was benched for Ian Vachon. The newcomer Gibbs, who arrives from Southern Miss, made 10 of his 13 attempts last season, including a 59-yarder.

Freeze noted that even if McPherson plays, Auburn might still turn to multiple kickers based on the situation.

Auburn at Baylor is slated for Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised on FOX.
