Auburn OC Joel Gordon evaluates Byrum Brown’s 3 INT game vs. Baylor

Auburn offensive coordinator Joel Gordon met with reporters on Monday to discuss the Tigers’ 17-16 win over Baylor in Week 1.
Although Auburn came away with the victory, fans still came away concerned with what they saw from new starting quarterback Byrum Brown. The former South Florida star threw 3 interceptions and rushed for just 27 yards on 21 carries in the narrow win.
As for the interceptions, Gordon called the mistakes “correctable” moving forward.
“All of them are correctable, without a doubt,” Gordon said.

Brown is known as an elite runner as a quarterback, but he posted a rushing success rate of just 25% and a sack rate of 12.5% on Saturday — both concerning numbers for a quarterback who derives much of his value on the ground.
Aside from the interceptions, Brown’s passing metrics were solid. He completed 74% of his passes and averaged 7.4 yards per attempt.
Brown and Gordon have worked together for years — they were both at South Florida prior to moving to the Plains this offseason. Gordon has served as Brown’s offensive coordinator since his sophomore year at USF.
Brown and the Tigers will host Southern Miss in Week 2.
