John Cohen is officially hired as Auburn’s new athletics director, according to a report from Jon Sokoloff of WCBI, which followed several earlier reports that the deal was imminent.

Cohen, who has been the AD at MSU since November of 2016, would take over for Allen Greene, who left Auburn in late August. Prior to that, he was the Bulldogs’ head baseball coach from 2009-16. Greene stepped down with 5 months remaining on his initial 5-year deal, and was perhaps most remembered for his hire of Bryan Harsin.

Now Cohen’s first order of business is to address the embattled Harsin, who lost another game on Saturday as he faces mounting questions about the direction of the program. The Harsin issue has been a problem at Auburn for months, beginning with a 5-game losing streak to end last season, and then an offseason coup attempt to move on from Harsin. A school investigation into Harsin’s program followed an exodus of players and coaches.
