Mizzou quarterback Austin Simmons has agreed to return to Columbia for the 2027 season, according to a report.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel shared that news on Friday afternoon. Simmons has been excellent in his lone year as Mizzou‘s starting quarterback after transferring in from Ole Miss.
Thamel’s report does note that Simmons may still pursue the NFL Draft this offseason. However, he’s no longer expected to look at his options in the transfer portal.

As Thamel noted, having certainty at the quarterback position gives Mizzou more freedom to aggressively pursue talent at other positions in the transfer portal. The Tigers could potentially make a College Football Playoff push in 2027 with Simmons leading the way.
Mizzou is 6-2 on the season in 2026 and Simmons has been a big part of its success to this point in the year. The Tigers have a very tough schedule down the stretch, which could shape both Simmons’ draft stock and Mizzou’s level of optimism for the 2027 season.
Simmons and the Tigers will be in action again on Saturday against Texas in a top-25 matchup.
