Beginning of the end? Marcus Spears says Clemson needs ‘major evolution’ on offense

The Clemson offense had plenty of trouble on Saturday night against Georgia, and many have chalked it up to the Bulldogs’ stellar defense.
However, during a segment on “Get Up” on ESPN, analyst Marcus Spears said Clemson needs to make some serious changes.
“I hope the window has not closed, but it’s looking like it,” Spears said. “This is not just about recruiting, Dabo (Swinney) and that staff are still going to recruit at a high level, but there needs to be some evolution, especially with this offense.”
Spears said he remembers sitting at the SEC Network when Nick Saban hired Lane Kiffin, which he called a line of demarcation because Spears said Saban realized that he needed to have the ability to put up 50 points a game.
“Right now, Clemson offense looks anemic,” Spears said. “It looks too dependent on stars, as opposed to schematically being able to get some things going.”
While Georgia’s defense was expected to be good, the Clemson offense was “so predictable,” he said.
Spears said Saban’s greatness is because he stays a year to a year and a half ahead of other programs, and Dabo Swinney is at that point with Clemson where he needs to upgrade the offense.
