Like every major conference in college football, the Big 12 has undergone some significant changes over the past several years, completely reshaping the league from the ground up.

The conference lost its two biggest brands, Texas and Oklahoma, to realignment back in 2024 and added several programs from the former Pac-12 and Group of Five to help fill the void that the departing Longhorns and Sooners left behind.

Now, the Big 12 appears to be on the verge of another major shake up all the way at the top, with ESPN insider Pete Thamel reporting on Friday morning that commissioner Brett Yormark is expected to leave his current position at the end of the season.

According to Thamel, Yormark decided to leave his current position to accept another job outside of college athletics, and he is expected to remain with the conference through at least January of next year.

Yormark took over as Big 12 commissioner in 2022, succeeding longtime commissioner Bob Bowlsby following his retirement. He helped guide the conference through a major period of uncertainty and was rewarded with a contract extension through 2030 in 2025 for his efforts.

It doesn’t look like Yormark will see that contract through, though, leaving the Big 12 searching for its sixth commissioner since the conference officially rebranded back in 1995.
