When Bill Belichick was officially announced as the next head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels football program this past offseason, it stirred up a level of optimism among Carolina faithful that hasn’t been seen in years.

For the first time in what seemed like forever, the Tar Heels finally appeared to have a veteran coach at the helm who had all the tools to win, and to win big at a place that has long been termed a “basketball school.”

Many of these high hopes were dashed in Week 1, though, as the TCU Horned Frogs marched into Kenan Stadium and handed the Heels a 48-14 beatdown in Belichick’s first home game.

Carolina got things back on track a bit over the past 2 weeks by picking up 2 wins, albeit wins against lesser programs, and things looked to be looking back up again for Belichick in Chapel Hill.

This weekend’s matchup against the UCF Knights presented the second actual test for the Heels, though, and Carolina is once again struggling to gain any sort of momentum on either side of the ball.

This has in turn led to fans and analysts alike sounding off on Belichick’s poor performance at the helm in Chapel Hill, and once again bringing up the question of whether his legacy in New England was solely due to Tom Brady’s performance instead of his prowess as a coach.

Here’s a bit of what that looked like on X:
