Billy Napier is aware of the struggles Florida is facing on defense, as the Gators have been described as “historically bad” in that area.
The Gators are 109th in the country in total defense, and 80th in scoring defense, which are 12th and 11th in the SEC.
At his Monday press conference, Napier said there’s not one issue, and “No one is ignoring the problem” and when he was asked if if he got his hands dirty during the bye week, he replied, “I think I’m getting dirty there all the time. We’re looking for all the things we can control, we’re going to focus on improvement.”
These are not new or unfamiliar issues for the coach.
“We know why we’ve lost games,” he said. “I think we know what winning football looks like. The games we lost we didn’t deserve to win.”
The Gators opened as a 22-point underdog against Georgia this week in Jacksonville.
About the talent gap between the Gators and the Bulldogs, Napier said, “I think we all understand that. There’s work to be done.”
