A story about a local boy who did well fits really well with Bobby Portis these days.

The former Arkansas star, and Little Rock native, returned to his hometown this weekend to start his foundation, and be honored by city leaders including receiving a key to the city.

Portis, a six-year NBA veteran, used a basketball camp at Little Rock Hall STEAM Magnet High School to start the Bobby Portis Foundation Weekend, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported. Portis was inspired to support this organization because he came from a single mom household.

The organization, which was created to aid single mothers throughout the community, held the first event in 2019 but was forced to cancel it a year ago because of health and safety concerns centered around covid-19. But this year, Portis, who earned All-American honors in high school at Hall and for the Razorbacks, was determined to bring the showcase back as a way to continue his benevolent ways of giving back โ€“ a trait that’s seemingly comes just as naturally to him as breathing.

Portis helped the Milwaukee Bucks to an NBA championship this summer over the Phoenix Suns. Portis signed with the Bucks after he became a free agent following a stint with the New York Knicks.
