Brandon Spikes, Florida Hall of Fame LB, joins football staff

Brandon Spikes is back in Gainesville. The former Florida linebacker is now on staff as a student assistant.

Spikes is enrolled again at UF as he seeks to complete his degree. He’s also a student assistant on Billy Napier’s staff, per Gators in-house writer Scott Carter.

Spikes played on Urban Meyer’s Florida teams from 2006-to-2009. A 3-time first-team All-SEC selection and 2-time Consensus All-American, Spikes helped the Gators win BCS national championships in 2006 and ’08. Spikes was inducted into the UF Athletic Hall of Fame in 2020.

After his college career, Spikes played in the NFL from 2010-to-2016. The New England Patriots selected Spikes No. 62 overall in the second round of the 2010 draft.

From 2014-to-2016, Spikes bounced back and forth between the Patriots and AFC rival Buffalo. Spikes made 27 regular-season appearances for the Bills over the 2014 and ’16 seasons. He returned to New England in 2015 but did not play that season.

Earlier this month, Spikes promoted his appearance in the upcoming Netflix documentary “Untold: Swamp Kings” on the Meyer-era at UF.
