The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off their biggest win of the season in Week 6 against the previously top-ranked Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry, a game they won despite missing one of their key pieces up front on offense.
Sophomore offensive tackle Michael Fasusi, who was knocked out of the Sooners’ Week 1 blowout against UTEP, has missed the last 4 games for Oklahoma while recovering from a shoulder injury, a loss that has been very apparent for the team over their first 5 games in 2026.
It looks like Fasusi is finally on the verge of making his long-awaited return for the Sooners, though, with Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables telling reporters on Tuesday that Fasusi is “just about ready.”
“He’s just about ready,” Venables said at his weekly press conference. “Everybody’s excited to get another really good player back… He’s gotta clear another hurdle or two here in the next two days.”
A 5-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting cycle, Fasusi played in 11 games and made 10 starts at left tackle for the Sooners as a true freshman last season, helping lead the program to a 10-3 record and its first College Football Playoff berth since 2019.
He was expected to be a key contributor in his second year in Norman, but the lingering shoulder injury has kept him shelved for almost half the season. The hope for the Sooners is that he will be able to pick up where he left off and help stabilize what has been a shaky offensive line to this point.
