Brent Venables reveals one ‘wish’ about Jackson Arnold’s time ahead of their Week 4 clash
Whenever a player transfers, there’s an air of spite that surrounds their future interactions with the school they departed. That said, Brent Venables has done everything he can to suggest there was nothing personal between Oklahoma and Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold, who will duke it out on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Venables told reporters he was “really happy” that Arnold is having “great success” at Auburn. He followed up those comments on Wednesday with a statement on Arnold’s time as a Sooner, saying that he wishes Oklahoma “had a healthy offensive football team” in 2024 so Arnold could have truly showcased his abilities.
Through 3 games as a Tiger, Arnold is looking every bit like the dynamic dual-threat quarterback Sooners fans hoped he’d be for them. He has completed 69.6% of his passes, thrown 4 touchdowns — and 0 interceptions — and racked up 192 rushing yards.
In the bottom of their hearts, Oklahoma’s fanbase should be happy that Arnold is playing well for a new team. However, the Sooner faithful will be rooting for his run of strong starts to end on Saturday afternoon. Venables, who’s saying the right things at the podium, is obviously hoping for that, too. Kickoff between Auburn and Oklahoma is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
