There were plenty of celebrations to go around Saturday night following LSU‘s hard-fought 17-10 win over Clemson, and new defensive back Mansoor Delane was one of the focal points of the post-game festivities.

The Virginia Tech transfer was awarded the game ball after his first time suiting up for the Bayou Bengals. Delane recorded two tackles, a pair of pass breakups and a key third-quarter interception during his team’s victory in Death Valley.

“We’re gonna give out a Game Ball, and it goes to Mansoor Delane,” head coach Brian Kelly said during his postgame address to the team.

Delane walked to the front and claimed his ball, but he also had a brief message for the team.

“The goal isn’t this, our goal is the national championship,” Delane said to cheers from his teammates. “On to the next one!”

Delane and the LSU defense put forth an inspired performance after stating they’d be an improved unit throughout the offseason.

Blake Baker’s variety of blitz packages harassed Cade Klubnik all night, forcing him to complete just 50% of his passing attempts. On top of that, the Tiger defense held Clemson to a measly 1.7 yards per carry, which allowed the visitors to pin their ears back and hunt in the backfield.
