Brian Kelly roasted by fans, media after Notre Dame wins Sugar Bowl to advance in CFP

Brian Kelly was on the wrong end of some jokes by college football fans and media on Thursday night.

The jokes were flowing after Notre Dame, Kelly’s former team, advanced in the College Football Playoff by beating Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on Thursday night. It was a bit of poetry, perhaps, that the win came in New Orleans — less than 100 miles from Kelly’s current post in Baton Rouge.

Kelly spent more than a decade in South Bend as he led the Notre Dame football program from 2010-21. He had a lot of success at Notre Dame, winning 10+ games in 6 different seasons.

However, he decided to leave Notre Dame for a program that he believed was better-positioned to compete for national championships.

“I want to be in an environment where I have the resources to win a national championship,” Kelly said in 2022. “And I came down here because I want to be in the American League East … I felt like I did everything that I could at Notre Dame and they felt like they did everything they could for me. …I loved my time at Notre Dame. We were on different paths and that’s fine. I’m fine with that.”

Now, just shy of 3 years later, Notre Dame is on the cusp of reaching the national championship game while Kelly has lost multiple SEC games in each of his first 3 seasons at LSU.

Here’s a sampling of the jokes that poured in at Kelly’s expense on Thursday night:
